The Thomas More Centre in Adelaide recently held its annual Autumn School for "youth and the young at heart." The school took as its title, "The Hope that is in you" from Pope John Paul II's 1985 address to youth, Dilecti Amici.

Heading a roster of expert speakers was Adelaide's Archbishop Philip Wilson, who spoke on the meaning of vocation (see p. 20).

Pat Byrne, National Vice-President of the National Civic Council, spoke on "The call of the Beatitudes to the Lay Apostolate" while Andrew Evans, leader of the Family First Party in the SA Legislative Council, explained his work in politics and how his faith enabled him to stand up and make a difference.

Anna Krohn spoke on "Love and Responsibility" and Paul Madden, Executive Director of the Baptist Community Services of South Australia, took a thought-provoking look at Christian service. Fr Peter Knowles OP, a priest of the Byzantine Russian Rite, focussed on prayer, while Paul Russell, the convenor for the Thomas More Centre (SA), addressed the need for more young Catholics to get involved in politics.

To conclude a very successful weekend, the film Witness to Hope - The Life of Karol Wojtyla (Pope John Paul II) was shown. It made evident in the life of the Holy Father much of what was said during the TMC Autumn School.
