Beautiful hymn (letter)
Therese F. Sellick

"Those dreadful old hymns" (June 2003) was a good article, but I would like to make two points. "O Mother I could weep for mirth" is a beautiful hymn and as mirth simply means merriment (joy) or laughter, we weep for joy. I do forget the next line, but "Faith of Our Fathers" is one of the most truly inspiring hymns ever for its words and music. It is just what it is meant to be.
Congratulations to Michael Gilchrist and Anthony Cappello on their Centenary Medals.
