Letters Church leadershipThe report on Bishop Morris of Toowoomba's Pastoral Letter (February AD2000) highlights a weakness in the organisation of the Catholic Church. I am amazed that a Catholic bishop could advance such ideas, some of them at odds with the teachings of the Catholic Church. The solution to the shortage of priests that concerns Bishop Morris is to start teaching our children the real faith and not the watered down version that occurs in many schools at present. This has contributed to the mass exodus of graduates of the Catholic education system - a situation all Australian bishops need to address. If the present trend continues few priests will be needed as the churches will be mostly empty. Many Catholics are wondering when new bishops will be appointed with the courage to tackle the present crisis of faith before the point of no return is reached. P.W.
