It was a surprise to read in the February AD2000 that the Bishop of Toowoomba has suggested that the shortage of priests, of crisis proportions in some dioceses including his own, could be met by the ordination of women.

Every Catholic theologian knows that the Sacrament of Priestly Orders can only be conferred on a baptised male. Hence any attempt to ordain a woman to the Catholic priesthood would be null and void.
