DAUGHTER OF MAN, MOTHER OF GOD:
Mary's Role in the Contemporary Catholic Church
by Barry M. Coldrey
(Tamanaraik Press, 4/67 Collins Street, Thornbury, Vic 3071, 2011, 100pp, illustrated. $24.95, shipping included (Australia). ISBN: 1-875258-893-247. Available from above address)

This is an attractive and inexpensive update and re-organisation of an existing book originally released in 2007. There are three sections: the first deals with themes such as Mary's Presence in the Gospels; The Women of the Bible: Eve to Mary; Mary in the Early Church; and the four major dogmas regarding Mary: "Mother of God ... remained a Virgin ... free from Original Sin ... assumed into Heaven."

The second section discusses the "Marian Age" since 1830 and Mary's reported apparitions and messages since that time. The focus is on four apparitions, supported by relevant authority but not well-known in Australia: L'Ile Bouchard, France; Kibheo, Rwanda (Central Africa); Akita, Japan; and Betania, Venezuela.

The third section deals with Mary in the Contemporary Church: a certain eclipse in devotion during the 1970s to 1990s and the current revival in the new millennium. The main focus here is on the Rosary.
