As a result of increasing costs over recent years, and the promise of further increases, the cover price of AD2000 will increase to $3.00 per issue (including GST), and annual subscriptions will cost $44.00 (proportionately for overseas countries) as of this issue, February 2003.

Except for the unavoidable cost increases imposed as a result of the GST, AD2000's cover price has remained unchanged since the magazine was established in 1988. Subscriptions have been affected only by postage increases.

Australia Post has just increased the cost of standard letters from 45c to 50c, and already foreshadowed further increases in postal charges and other costs such as barcoding, which impact heavily on AD2000, since most copies are posted to subscribers.

Over this period, costs have been contained through internal economies, the kind co-operation of our printer, Brougham Press, and through the generosity of our team of volunteers who assist with packaging and dispatch.

There have been a number of improvements to AD2000 since the last price increase. Many of our writers, some of them from overseas, now communicate by email, ensuring that stories and features retain immediacy and topicality.

Another significant change has been the development of AD2000's web site (, which offers a number of special services to existing subscribers and the general public with Internet access. These include email, which enables readers to send letters instantaneously, the more convenient electronic subscription renewal, and the posting of AD2000 articles on the world wide web.

Additionally, we have installed a powerful search engine on our web site. This is of particular value to readers looking for articles published some time ago, or a series of articles on related subjects, and is used extensively by young people as an aid in their studies, as well as by researchers wanting access to information published in past issues of AD2000.

Thank you for your continuing support. We trust you will understand the circumstances which have forced us - regrettably - to make these increases.
