Letters Homosexual 'marriage'The new Prime Minister Kevin Rudd during the election campaign said he opposed homosexual marriage. Homosexual lobby groups were 'outraged'. Yes, giving homosexual adults the 'right' to raise children sounds nice - until you realise it extinguishes the child's right to have a mother and a father. We've known for thousands of years that mother and father together are the best combination to rear the next generation. Recent research, e.g., Sotirlos Sarantakos, 'Children in Three Contexts', Children Australia, Vol 21 (1996), 23-31, confirms it. Marriage is a contract involving mother, father and children - also the state, which is obliged to protect children's interests. Traditional societies always considered the marriage contract also to involve God - making it something not lightly to be discarded.
