Having been cited by Michael Gilchrist in his broadly critical article of the Ballarat Diocese, "Is Townsville the model for Ballarat's priest shortage?" (April AD2000), I presume a right of reply.

Michael Gilchrist indulges in unprofessional journalism in his narrow selection of data. Regrettably Gilchrist's unprofessional selectivity sallies a genuine, humble and far- reaching diocesan search for the truth of the Spirit of God, to reveal renewed directions for the Church we love and to which we are committed.
